District Finals
North Stamford went undefeated in District play with a come from behind 5-3 win over Darien National to win the 10/11 District 1 championship.
Down 3-0 through 3 innings, NS played small ball to tie the game in the 4th and got the long ball to win it in the 5th. Gil Daniels worked out a walk to start the 4th and Patrick Seegers followed with a single to center. Grant Stone's well placed bunt was thrown into right field making the score 3-2 and Stone then scored on a single by Chris Glynn. In the 5th Alex Mella hit a dramatic two run home run to give NS its first lead . Stone then made it stand up with a 1-2-3 6th inning for a complete game win. Once again defense proved to be the difference. In the 4th, already down 3-0, NS killed a potential Darien rally with a 4-6-3 play. This seemed to have sparked the team. In the 5th with the score tied a 3, Darien had runners on 1st and 2nd and got a base hit to right field but a perfect relay from Colten Katcher to Stone to Anthony Socci cut down the potential go ahead run. In all, NS went 7-0 in districts and outscored their opponents 61-17.
7/15/2010
